LINAC

LINAC

A linear accelerator (LINAC) is the device
commonly used to treat patients with cancer. It delivers high-energy x-rays to all areas of the body. The x-ray beams can be designed to spare as much healthy tissue as possible.

It is used in different techniques, such as intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT),
image guided radiation therapy (IGRT), and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT).

Proton therapy

In proton therapy a beam of protons is targeted at the tumor. Due to protons relatively large mass, the beam stays focused on the tumor shape, with little side scatter.

This means that the healthy tissue around the tumor receives a low radiation dose,
resulting in fewer side-effects. Protons range and dose can also be controlled accurately.
This allows the highest amount of radiation to be deposited in the tumor, not before or after. This is known as the Bragg Peak.

BNCT

Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) is not a new therapy, but it is currently undergoing testing in Japan for a new application that can be used within hospitals.
It is a highly selective type of radiation therapy that can target the tumor at the cellular level without causing radiation damage to the adjacent normal cells and tissues.
It is a two-step process. Firstly, the patient is injected with a tumor localizing drug containing a non-radioactive isotope called boron. Secondly, the patient is irradiated with epithermal neutrons.

The neutrons pass harmlessly through the patients body. However, when the neutrons contact the boron in the tumor, a nuclear reaction occurs at a cellular level.
The tumor is destroyed cell by cell, without damaging adjacent healthy tissue.

The Air-Bag System

The "Air-Bag System" (ABS) is a simple support system for stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).

The ABS has a wide variety of features, requires very few instructions and no respiratory strategy teaching,
nor does it need any interruption for simulation or irradiation and helps the non-invasive treatment
for the patient.
